Because of this, a lot of runic inscriptions can be found inside, making Maeshowe one of the largest collection of runic graffiti in Europe.<\/p>\n<figure class=\"tmblr-full\" data-orig-height=\"96\" data-orig-width=\"350\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/64.media.tumblr.com\/6a7fdf86c5238fca0c4b0fd519b78fbd\/4858347a33113522-30\/s540x810\/cc96d701d1faa6fe01e63ffea072e9f89b2de9ae.jpg\" data-orig-height=\"96\" data-orig-width=\"350\" \/><\/figure>\n<p>Here\u2019s a few samples:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>\n\u201cArnfithr Matr carved these runes with this axe owned by Gauk Trandilsson in the South land\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\n\u201cIs to me said that treasure is here hidden<br \/>\n very well. Say few as Oddr\u201d<\/p>\n<p><\/li>\n<li>\n\u201cThese runes were carved by the man most skilled in runes in the western ocean\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\n\u201cIngigerth is the most beautiful of all women\u201d<\/li>\n<li>\n\u201c(\u2026) Lif the earl\u2019s cook carved these runes. To the north-west is a great treasure hidden. It was long ago that a great treasure was hidden<br \/>\n here. Happy is he that might find that great treasure.
