Barcelona are hoping against all odds to sign Julian Alvarez this summer, even though Atletico Madrid have clearly stated that they are not selling<\/a> their star player to a direct rival.<\/p>\n

Alvarez is keen on a move to Camp Nou and is doing everything in his power<\/a> to force through a transfer. But as things stand, time is running out and Atleti do not seem to be in any mood to change their mind.<\/p>\n

That is why Barcelona have now started finding alternatives more aggressively and it appears they have stumbled upon another Argentinian.<\/p>\n

Martinez identified as an Alvarez alternative<\/h2>\n

According to Eldesmarque<\/a>, Barcelona have identified Lautaro Martinez as a potential alternative for Julian Alvarez.<\/p>\n

The Inter Milan striker is held at high regards in Catalonia, with both sporting director Deco and head coach Hansi Flick being firm admirers.<\/p>\n

Martinez has been performing consistently in Serie A for years and has proven his credentials with the national team as well.<\/p>\n

The Argentine international has also been linked with a move to Barcelona in the past, but the club always faced financial hiccups. <\/p>\n

Should Barcelona make a move for Martinez?<\/h2>\n

Martinez might actually prove to be a better alternative than most other available options in the market right now.<\/p>\n

At 28, the player is in the peak of his powers and has a track record of scoring 175 goals in 376 competitive matches for Inter Milan.<\/p>\n

The Argentina might not be as technically gifted as Alvarez, but his poaching abilities, coupled with his physical and aerial qualities make him more similar to Lewandowski than someone like Alvarez.<\/p>\n

This is a good thing as it means Lautaro can offer additional skillset in the Barcelona frontline, which is otherwise full of technically gifted stars. <\/p>\n

Signing the former River Plate starlet could be tough, though, with the player still having a contract at Inter Milan until 2029.
