Welcome to another collection of Apps of the Day<\/strong> from Bored Giant. Today\u2019s lineup brings together playful simulations, mathematical curiosities, abstract visual experiments, natural phenomena, and atmospheric live wallpapers.<\/p>\n

But before we get into today\u2019s apps, here\u2019s a little childhood experiment that still makes me smile.<\/p>\n

When we were kids, we could turn almost anything lying around into a toy. One particularly memorable invention involved dried maize cobs<\/strong>. With a dry maize leaf, a section of the dry stem, and an Acacia thorn<\/strong>, you could build a remarkably convincing little airplane.<\/p>\n

The construction was wonderfully simple. Take a section of dry maize stem to form the body. Cut a piece from a dry maize leaf and shape it into a small, aerodynamic wing. Then use an Acacia thorn to carefully make a hole through the center of the wing and push it onto the maize stem. That\u2019s it. No batteries. No motors. No instructions.<\/p>\n

Then came the fun part.<\/p>\n

Point your little aircraft straight ahead, run against the wind, and watch what happens. The wing catches the airflow and begins to spin like a tiny rotor<\/strong>. Suddenly, the humble piece of dried maize has become something wonderfully mechanical. And because everyone wanted to try it, race it, improve it, or build a slightly different version, the experiment quickly became a source of joy for everyone involved.<\/p>\n

There is something beautiful about toys like that. You don\u2019t need sophisticated materials to discover aerodynamics. You just need curiosity, a little imagination, and perhaps an Acacia thorn conveniently within reach.<\/p>\n

Consider that a small easter egg<\/strong> hidden in today\u2019s collection. If you\u2019re the sort of person who likes understanding why<\/em> things move, spin, propagate, balance, or transform, several of today\u2019s apps may reward that same curiosity.<\/p>\n
