Here is every detail fans should know about the ongoing exchange of words between Erigga and Davido on social media.

Afrobeats star Davido and Nigerian rapper Erigga have engaged in a heated exchange on social media over comments surrounding family wealth and the struggles faced by musicians.

The controversy began after Erigga took to X on Wednesday to acknowledge artistes who built their careers without financial support or wealth from their families.

“Shoutout to all the musicians who don’t come from family money and have to grind for every single dollar they earn,” Erigga wrote.

Davido, who was born into a wealthy family, responded to the post while defending musicians who come from privileged backgrounds.

Quoting Erigga’s post, the Grammy-nominated singer wrote in Pidgin: “No be we say make your pops no guard o. Shoutout to the ones that came from family money and still grind to the top. Comot here with that your useless motivation. Imbecile.”

Davido’s response quickly attracted attention, with many social media users debating whether coming from a wealthy family should diminish the achievements of artistes who go on to build successful careers.

The singer later appeared to suggest that he could eventually step away from music to focus on his other ventures and wealth.

“No worry o I go soon leave their music for una go make my billions… then that shit gonna be boring AF,” Davido wrote.

He followed the comment with a rhetorical question: “Deep down, who like poverty?”

The exchange has since generated mixed reactions on X. Some users sided with Erigga, arguing that his original post was simply acknowledging musicians who had to overcome financial limitations while building their careers.

Others supported Davido’s position, maintaining that being born into wealth does not necessarily mean an artiste has not worked hard or made sacrifices to achieve success in the entertainment industry.

The disagreement has also reignited a broader conversation within Nigerian music about privilege, self-made success and whether an artiste’s family background should influence how their achievements are viewed.

The conversation seems far from over as both artists have continued to trade words on social media as Davido quoted a post as far back as the early 2020s where Erigga expressed the desire to collaborate with the singer.

Get Fresh updates from NotJustOk as they drop via X and Facebook
