Famous Last Words had been one of my favourite, if not the favourite, MCR song since it was released and I only recently learnt of its origin – Gerard responding to Mikey's wish to leave the band. As a fan of over 20 years, I feel somehow responsible for the agonizing position the success of the band places them in. I want more from them; want them to tour more, release more music, tell us more about their lives, the band, their art. But at the same time their creations have sustained me for decades. They've been there for me at my lows and highs, they've made me laugh, cry, rage, fear for the future, present and past. I still find myself discovering new things I love and appreciate about their work: just tonight I couldn't believe the mastery of Mama's production and structure – fucking glorious! Equally camp, silly, serious and profound. And a masterclass in storytelling. I don't want them to exist because they feel they need to, I want them to exist because they have something to say, something to share with us. I love Foundations and hope we get more of that – because it speaks to us and our times. But if we don't get anything beyond that, I'll be ok (I promise). Just knowing I've been along for the ride with them is enough.
But where is your heart? But where's your heart? π£οΈπ£οΈ
I just listened to this for the first time and all I can say is holy. Crap.
I find Gerard Way's face endlessly fascintating!
