Happy Thursday, everyone. Josh Jacobs went on the Pivot Podcast recently, and this story about his relationship with Nick Saban was quite interesting.
“I scored a touchdown, and I got a taunting penalty,” Jacobs said. “Basically, me and the dude was going back and forth. I got a taunting penalty. So typical Saban fashion, especially with something that’s controllable, he cussed me out. So I’m like, ‘Ah (expletive).’ Like, ‘I’ll eat it.’ I’m like, ‘Yeah, he cussed me out. I got to eat that.’ Like, ‘It’s due.’ But then a couple of drives went by, and he came back and tried to cuss me out again. And I’m like, ‘Hold on.’ So I get up, and, you know, Saban’s short, so I’m like, ‘But what?’ We on, so I’m mad. I’m on that for real with him.
“And so it’s right before halftime. So we’re going to halftime, I take my pads off. I’m like, ‘Bro, I’m good. I’m done with this (expletive).’ I’m going to figure it out, be transferred, whatever. I talked to coach (Mike Locksley). And Locks was like, ‘Man, what’s going on?’ We started talking. He said, ‘Man, I know.’ I had coaches used to come up to me and ask me why am I not playing, and that used to piss me off. I’m like, ‘Bro, I don’t know. Y’all control that.’
“So long story short, I come back out. They kicked the ball off. I was kick returning. I took it like 70, 80 yards. Didn’t even celebrate. I just stared him down the whole time. Ran to the sideline, staring him down the whole time. And then after that, man, we had, literally the next day, me and him, we had a meeting. We sat down and we had a real conversation. And then after that, they started making plays for me in the offense and things like that. And my career just started taking off.”
Colin Gay examined where Alabama stands in the current recruiting cycle.
The Alabama football recruiting season is well underway in the 2026 class.
Crimson Tide coaches are criss-crossing the country, looking to add pieces to Alabama’s five-man recruiting class of Georgia five-star cornerback Jorden Edmonds. Gadsden four-star cornerback Zyan Gibson, Georgia four-star defensive end Jamarion Matthews, Georgia four-star offensive lineman Chris Booker and Muscle Shoals four-star defensive end Kamhariyan Johnson.
Who could be the next commitment in the Crimson Tide’s 2026 recruiting class? Here’s a look at where Alabama stands heading into May.
Scarbinsky wonders if the oil money is too much for Alabama schools to overcome.
Texas may not be running the SEC in its first year in the league, but in the running for the best department-wide performance in the conference, especially in the most popular sports, Alabama, Auburn and the rest are staring at the southbound end of northbound Bevo.
With a month and a half left on the college sporting calendar, Texas has the No. 1 baseball team in the country and the No. 5 softball team, which only recently fell out of the top spot in the polls. The women’s basketball team was ranked No. 1 in the nation for two weeks as was the football team.
Football had the best conference record in the regular season before losing to Georgia in the SEC Championship Game. Ewers and the Longhorns reached the College Football Playoff semifinals, the deepest run of any SEC team, before falling to eventual champion Ohio State.
Richard Hendrix thinks that Keitenn Bristow will be a good addition to the hoops squad.
In Hendrix’s words, Bristow is a guy “who can get up and down, shoot a little bit from the outside,” and offers some more length to a towering 2025-26 Crimson Tide roster. All incoming transfer portal arrivals for Alabama stand at 6-5 or taller.
“This is a strong program that’s been really, really good and you know you’ll get a player, playing for Billy Gillispie, that will be a tough-minded basketball player,” Hendrix said.
Hendrix added he thinks that having a mental fortitude like Bristow’s is what Alabama will “need the most” this upcoming season.
Last, Rich Rod has jokes.
“Somebody did a story about that because obviously with Coach Saban’s success, he was the greatest college football coach ever,” Rodriguez said. “What I tell everybody, I said, ‘Remember, I didn’t go to Alabama the year before.’ And some of the things that happened then that (kept) me here came up later on, too, one year later.”
Rodriguez said jokingly:
“But I always tell the story: ‘Where’s my trophy in Tuscaloosa? Where’s my statue outside there? Because if I had gone there, you probably wouldn’t have those six national championships and all that.”
We have long thought that your wife deserved one, Rich. We all know she’s the reason you backed out.
That’s about it for now. Have a great day.
Roll Tide.
