Found this cute dollhouse last weekend at the thrift store for $4 and could not leave it behind.
It is smaller than a typical 1:12 scale house, but most 1:12 furniture will work in it. It was built with hot glue which is not the appropriate glue, but it has held up. I may remove some of the pieces for painting and reattach with wood glue. A hair dryer will probably be enough to soften the glue and remove pieces. I’ll just leave the main house as is.
I’m going to remove the partitions between the rooms (and the little shelves and banister) and make it 3 rooms. Each will still will be smaller than a typical dollhouse room, but it will work.
Finding this house has put me back into 1:12 mode, especially keen on the Mouse Mansion. My son (7 almost 8) and I have been watching the tutorials and reading the original book at night. We are anxiously awaiting the arrival of another book. He is pretty crafty and I wonder if I could get him excited enough to want to craft minis and a small mouse house. That is the goal 🙂
I stalled midstream on my big Victorian dollhouse reno because I’m so disappointed in all of the house problems that I will never be able to fix. It may be time to give up on it, but then I look at it and feel like I want to keep trying. If I can get over trying to make it look perfect then I can enjoy working on it, again.
No time for crafts until after January 21st so I just daydream about what I will do with this new house. I want to use egg carton stone for the porch and first floor flooring and popsicle stick flooring for the second two floors. I’m considering making this a Halloween house for a witch mouse since I have really cool theme scrapbook paper from Michael’s. I had so much fun making my Halloween glitter house a few years ago and then I could display this house in the fall.
But, I’m also considering a pretty feminine house for Chamomile, my nurse mouse. If I do a pretty house, I could use a bunch of fairy garden stuff I’ve got for the porch and maybe make a small garden to go with it where Chamomile can grow her medicinal herbs. Actually, either the witch or Cham could use a garden for growing special plants.
I’ve got lots of thrifted furniture to paint for either style.
I’m going to try to make this a "quick" reno for diorama photos and just have fun with it :).
