Shazam is levelling up its discovery game with a brand-new feature designed to show listeners exactly which moments in a song are grabbing the world’s attention. Launched this week on Shazam.com, the new Popular Segments tool highlights the portions of a track that sparked the most Shazams over the past week — a fascinating peek behind the curtain for casual listeners, deep-diving fans, and industry heads alike.
The interactive feature is available for top-ranking tracks on Shazam’s global charts, offering a graph that maps out relative song popularity from start to finish. Hover over any peak and you’ll see the specific timestamp and segment that listeners couldn’t help but ID. It’s a simple but powerful insight into what’s resonating: that one hook, the switch-up, the drop. Whatever moment made you reach for your phone is likely lighting up the Shazam charts too. “Shazam has always been about connecting fans to music that moves them,” says Apple Music’s Ole Obermann. “With Popular Segments, we’re taking that a step further — revealing exactly which moment in a song grabbed the listener’s attention.”
Popular Segments caps off a year of improvements to Shazam.com, following the rollout of artist links, bios, “Just Announced” concerts, and more tools aimed at making artists (and the stories behind their music) easier to discover. The feature is now available globally on desktop and mobile.
