Welcome to another collection of Apps of the Day from Bored Giant. Today’s lineup brings together playful simulations, mathematical curiosities, abstract visual experiments, natural phenomena, and atmospheric live wallpapers.

But before we get into today’s apps, here’s a little childhood experiment that still makes me smile.

When we were kids, we could turn almost anything lying around into a toy. One particularly memorable invention involved dried maize cobs. With a dry maize leaf, a section of the dry stem, and an Acacia thorn, you could build a remarkably convincing little airplane.

The construction was wonderfully simple. Take a section of dry maize stem to form the body. Cut a piece from a dry maize leaf and shape it into a small, aerodynamic wing. Then use an Acacia thorn to carefully make a hole through the center of the wing and push it onto the maize stem. That’s it. No batteries. No motors. No instructions.

Then came the fun part.

Point your little aircraft straight ahead, run against the wind, and watch what happens. The wing catches the airflow and begins to spin like a tiny rotor. Suddenly, the humble piece of dried maize has become something wonderfully mechanical. And because everyone wanted to try it, race it, improve it, or build a slightly different version, the experiment quickly became a source of joy for everyone involved.

There is something beautiful about toys like that. You don’t need sophisticated materials to discover aerodynamics. You just need curiosity, a little imagination, and perhaps an Acacia thorn conveniently within reach.

Consider that a small easter egg hidden in today’s collection. If you’re the sort of person who likes understanding why things move, spin, propagate, balance, or transform, several of today’s apps may reward that same curiosity.

Today’s Collection

Today’s selection moves between the playful and the mathematical. Cat and Mouse and Crickets Jump bring animated natural behavior to the collection, while Magnetic, Counterweight, and Signal Propagation explore physical forces, motion, and systems.

For the mathematically curious, Klein Cycloid, Recursive Pulse, and Gradient Rings turn mathematical concepts into dynamic visual experiences. Noise and Chalk Dust explore texture, randomness, and particulate behavior, while Sunstone Feldspar and Magma Chamber draw inspiration from the physical world.

The second half of the collection shifts toward atmospheric live wallpapers. Acorns, Amethyst Geode, Autumn, Balloons, Beer Foam, Bees, and Bicycle Wheel each bring a distinct subject and visual character to your home screen.

This collection is part of the continuing Bored Giant experiment in creating unusual, playful, mathematical, scientific, and artistic experiences for Android. From procedural shaders and simulations to natural phenomena and animated environments, every app offers a different way to transform your screen.

Sometimes the best technology starts with a dry maize leaf, a piece of stem, an Acacia thorn, and a child wondering what happens if they run into the wind.
