Adam and Jolene went from a complete trade drought to a total trade deluge. After burning through two whole days frantically dialling every plasterer in the phone book, Adam suddenly found himself hosting a small convention on site — nine plasterers deep.
“Our budget is out the window. It jumped out the window because the house was on fire,” Jolene sighed. Unfortunately, having nine guys on the payroll didn’t equal lightning speed. Instead, Adam and Jolene found themselves paying an army of tradies to move at a glacial pace, triggering a full-blown panic attack from Foreman Dan.
Dan was equally stressed about Lisa and Rosco. Despite their desperate attempt to bounce back from last week’s unfinished disaster, the universe was once again plotting against them. Facing the grim reality of another incomplete room, Dan stepped in and staged an intervention, practically begging them to scrap their time-consuming lime plaster plans for a simple, quick coat of white paint.

On a brighter note, after an emergency dating scan revealed she was actually nearly 11 weeks pregnant (not seven), Lisa and Rosco officially spilled the big news to the rest of the site.
Meanwhile, Courtney and Sev were still locked in a mortal struggle with the walk-in robe inherited from Lisa and Rosco. Just when they thought the blush exterior couldn’t get any worse, they uncovered the handle options: timber, or more pink.
Courtney was so horrified she declared she’d rather reveal completely handle-less doors than let Lisa’s design choices see the light of day.
Lisa and Rosco start to spread their happy news.
Trying to embrace the pink theme, Sev debuted a vibrant new hairstyle. “Some people think I have been bludging and spending time in the salon,” she laughed, before casually explaining she suffers from alopecia and loves swapping out her wigs.
After two weeks of wild spending — and endless, nagging lectures from Scott Cam warning they’d be broke by week five — Courtney and Sev finally tried to tighten the purse strings.
“I can’t wait to get to week six so I can stop hearing about overspending in week two,” Sev vented.
True to her word, Sev decided to personally tile their fireplace plinth instead of paying a professional. Desperate for a few pointers, she managed to corner the Cursio brothers for some remote advice, despite Chantel and Wyatt explicitly banning them from helping anyone else. The Cursios gave her a quick crash course from a safe distance, though both secretly worried she was in way over her head.
Courtney hates the pink walk-in robe she’s inherited from Lisa.
Miraculously, despite their agonisingly slow start to the week, Chantel and Wyatt somehow pulled ahead, becoming the first couple on site to start painting. Naturally, Chantel did 99 per cent of the heavy lifting while Wyatt remained AWOL with his infamous toothache.
It’s a good thing Chantel is running the interior design — if left to his own devices, Wyatt’s ideal master bedroom would feature a giant TV, a recliner couch, a wall-mounted PlayStation, and LED strip lights. The height of sophistication…if you are a teenage boy.
Over in House Five, Tayla and Rick looked set to achieve a major miracle: actually finishing a room in time for judging.
However, a quick visit from her real estate agent threw Tayla into a tailspin over her herringbone floors. The agent warned her that herringbone wasn’t high end and
could cost them the win if they didn’t pivot to chevron or parquetry. Fortunately, Scott
Cam and Shelley Croft poo-pooed the agent’s advice during their walk-through, assuring a panicked Tayla that buyers aren’t going to turn their noses up at herringbone.
Shelley was far less sold on Adam and Jolene’s bedroom, questioning whether Jolene’s attempt to bring the earthy bush vibes inside was a bit too literal.
Off the construction site, wardrobe malfunctions plagued the annual Block tennis match. Unable to force his massive tree-trunk thighs into his shorts, Wyatt simply gave up and strutted around site in his jocks. Courtney moaned that she wouldn’t have worn a black G string if she’d known she’d be shoved into a tiny white tennis skirt on national television, while a shivering, pregnant Lisa worried playing in the freezing rain was turning the event into a wet T-shirt contest.
Wyatt wouldn’t get into Rod Laver Arena like that.
Tayla was the only one thrilled to be in her tennis whites. As a PT who plays regularly, it was her match to lose — especially when up against opponents like Rosco (who openly despises ball sports) and Wyatt (who despises running and couldn’t fit into his shorts).
The shock of the day came from Lisa, who channelled her inner Serena Williams and slammed an ace so hard it knocked Rick flat on his back.
To top off the school sports day vibe, the contestants had to hurl tennis balls at terracotta pots to win plants for their houses. Chantel proved to be a secret sniper, walking away with a haul of 10 plants, while Tayla — who spent the whole morning talking a big game — went home completely empty-handed.
