Fairy Tail RE:FANTASIA Chapter 03 Manga Review Review
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Kal Eraser reveals to Jellal that he’d been on the Magic Council but left before “Siegrain” started causing problems. Eraser then states is goal of erasing unnecessary things. He sits the town and wizard guild Fairy Tail as unnecessary things. Eraser summons large, black, humanoid entities with various kanji on their chest. Jellal attacks them but it doesn’t seem to stop the entities.
Mirajane and Laxus show up, so Eraser disappears. Erza shows up to defend Jellal from an attack. Other members of Fairy Tail arrive. They realize that the entities are immune to attacks based on the kanji on the entities chest. Natsu rejects this and uses a fire breath attack. However, entities with the fire kanji on their chest were immune. As such, Fairy Tail members attack the entities that aren’t immune to their individual abilities.
As Fairy Tail members defeat the entities, Eraser and three other allies show up. They take note of Laxus. Natsu notices them as as other Fairy Tail members look, the foursome disappear. Natsu beats on a downed entity and it turns into a human. Gray notes that Erza cut up a bunch of them.
Thoughts/Review:
Basically, Fairy Tail RE:FANTASIA Chapter 03 is a lot of action and more setup.
On the action side, there’s not a lot to talk about. Lucy making a remark about kanji on the chest of one of the entities was amusing. Probably the most “shocking” element of the chapter is the joke where Gray remarks on Erza cutting down (and presumably killing) these humans and her “you were seeing things” remark to that. Kinda dark humor. 😅 I’m sure Mashima-sensei will skate past this by ignoring the problem or making it so that no innocent human got killed.
On the setup side, Erasure has three other compatriots. I don’t know if these guys are from Edens Zero or not. Regardless, it is a typical Mashima-sensei trope. We’ll get a team of overconfident antagonist that will give Fairy Tail members some initial grief before nakama power (or the like) allows Fairy Tail to overcome. This is pretty formulaic for Mashima-sensei. As such, unlike these new antagonist, my heart’s not racing and I’m not excited. I’m more like, “been there, done that” for the umpteenth time.
Of mild interest is their taking notice of Laxus. Why that is, I couldn’t even begin to say.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, Fairy Tail RE:FANTASIA Chapter 03 is pretty much standard fare stuff for Mashima-sensei. We get a big battle, a bit of unexpected dark humor, and setup for all the antagonist to fight.
