The new pipelines meant Rockstar could create its most diverse population ever.
Grand Theft Auto 6 is set to feature Rockstar Games’ most diverse NPC population. This required the company to create new tools and spend a lot of time on the ground, speaking with people from varies walks of life.

In an exclusive report by Dazed Digital, Jamie-Lee Lloyd, senior art director for characters, said that Rockstar Games developed new tools and pipelines that enabled the team to build “the most detailed and varied character population we’ve ever created.” This diversity is seen in how the characters move, their clothing, how they interact with the world and how they express themselves.
Lloyd states that creating the diverse NPC population was a collaboration across multiple teams. Furthermore, this diversity was possible thanks to Rockstar performing a decade of on-the-ground exploration of Miami. The research team submerged themselves in the city and spoke with an array of people across varied backgrounds.
The report also touched on how players have more options when driving between locations and how all-nighters affect the protagonists’ appearances.
