Mahou Shoujo Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance 12
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Hayate questions Eiji and wants information on Mana. Despite knowing Mana is evil, Eiji cares a great deal for Mana. As such, he refuses to betray her. Meanwhile, as Fate and Nanoha mop up what they think it Progenitor Zero, Towa and Shiina go after Mana. Due to Shiina’s attacks, she’s unable to regenerate. She comes to the sapling of the real Progenitor Zero. Connecting to it, Mana regenerates her body. However, Progenitor Zero reverses the process and kills her as she cries for Eiji.
As they come to the area where Progenitor Zero has grown to enormous height, Shiina has a memory from Setsuna’s confrontation with Mana years earlier. Towa somehow knows that Shiina is dead, completely absorbed into Progenitor Zero. The pair, primarily with Shiina’s power, force Progenitor Zero underground. Fate and Nanoha arrive to deal with the tendrils on the surface while Setsuna takes Towa underground.
Shiina believes she will burn out Setsuna’s power in this final attack. With Towa’s assistance, they obliterate Progenitor Zero. Shiina finds herself in a perfect dream world. Fate and Nanoha are girls from another school. They spend time at a cafe run by Towa’s adoptive parents. Shiina and Towa go to Shiina’s island home, where Setsuna is still alive. Shiina and Setsuna say goodbye before Shiina wakes up. Towa reveals she experienced the dream world as well.
EXCEEDS shut down major operations on this world. Eiji apparently commits suicide in prison without telling more about Mana. The Diaboli Slayers move in with Shiina at her island compound. Nanoha and Fate go to their next operation. However, they need Shiina, Towa, and the rest of the Diaboli Slayers to deal with a kaiju dragon.
Thoughts/Review:
And so Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance 12 brings an end to this series. I’m going to try to refrain from an overall series review and do that later.
The End
One thing I didn’t expect is that Shiina and Towa would also have to fight a tree in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance 12. I’m sorry, but I can’t take such a fight seriously. I thought that Mana would regenerate and gain some new power that would force Towa and Shiina working together to overcome. Instead, it was Towa and Shiina coming up with their version of a weed killer to end the Diaboli-invasive species threat.
I will give the writers credit when it came to the Mana x Eiji relationship. They didn’t have a traditional romance. And there was no sexual whatsit either. However, there’s no doubt in my mind that these two deeply loved each other. Mana’s final thoughts were of Eiji. And Eiji eventually died rather than betray Mana, even after her death. I respect that a great deal.
As to Mana, I will admit that it was tough seeing her die despite the evil she wrought. However, her tears where not for the sins she had committed. She cried because she was not able to accomplish what she sought out to do. And she cried because Eiji wasn’t there for her. Secretly, I hoped the little girl the Diaboli within the body of Mana would re-emerge without power. But alas, that was not to be. Mana paid for her evil with her life.
Finally, I like the idea of the Diaboli Slayers living in Shiina’s compound. It is certainly large enough for them all. However, I laugh at the notion that Fate and Nanoha couldn’t handle a kaiju dragon on some remote world. There’s no indication that it is magic resistant, thought that would be the ONLY reason Shiina, Towa, and the Diaboli Slayers should be brought in. I wonder if this story is in the manga.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
In the end, everything gets wrapped up in Magical Girl Lyrical Nanoha EXCEEDS Gun Blaze Vengeance 12. Shiina gets a final goodbye with Setsuna. Towa gets a final goodbye (of sorts) with her adoptive parents. The antagonists die and all’s well with the world. I’ll write a series review sometime in the near future.
