Owners of certain newer Range Rover Sport SUVs should check their vehicle identification numbers after Jaguar Land Rover recalled 873 vehicles over rear subframes that may develop cracks.
The recall covers certain 2024 through 2026 Range Rover Sport vehicles and was reported to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration on September 24, 2026. NHTSA assigned the campaign recall number 26V613000, while Jaguar Land Rover uses recall numbers D165 and D166.
The issue is particularly important because the rear subframe is a structural part of the vehicle. According to the manufacturer’s recall filing, a cracked subframe could have reduced structural integrity, potentially increasing the risk of injury during a crash. A crack could also diminish vehicle handling and control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Which Range Rover Sport SUVs Are Included?
The recall involves certain Range Rover Sport SUVs from the 2024, 2025, and 2026 model years.
The affected vehicles were manufactured between October 3, 2023, and May 22, 2026, but owning a Range Rover Sport from one of those model years doesn’t automatically mean the vehicle is recalled. Owners should use the NHTSA recall lookup tool and enter their 17-character VIN to determine whether their specific SUV has an open recall.
NHTSA notes that newly announced recalls may not immediately show every affected VIN while manufacturers finish identifying vehicles, so owners may need to check again if they believe their vehicle could be included.
What Caused the Rear Subframe Problem?
According to information Jaguar Land Rover provided to federal regulators, the company traced the problem to a manufacturing issue involving the rear subframe.
A forging defect was discovered at a supplier in June 2026, prompting further analysis of the manufacturing process. The investigation determined that cracks in an affected area weren’t necessarily being identified during manual quality inspections because the production process was expected to remove material from that location during final machining.
Jaguar Land Rover subsequently reviewed supplier and production records to identify potentially affected vehicles.
As of the manufacturer’s filing with NHTSA, no crashes, injuries, fires, claims, or field reports in the United States had been attributed to the issue. That doesn’t eliminate the potential safety concern, however, which is why the automaker initiated the recall before reported U.S. injuries occurred.
The Inspection and Repair Won’t Cost Owners Anything

Jaguar Land Rover dealers will inspect the rear subframe and replace it when necessary at no charge. NHTSA explains that manufacturers are responsible for providing free remedies for covered safety recalls, and owners can check outstanding recalls through the agency’s VIN lookup system.
That matters with a structural component such as a subframe, where an owner might otherwise worry about paying for a potentially significant repair. Owners shouldn’t pay an independent shop to perform recall work before first confirming whether their vehicle is covered and contacting an authorized Land Rover dealer about the free remedy.
It’s also worth keeping documentation showing that the recall inspection or repair was completed. Recall records can become useful when maintaining a vehicle’s service history or eventually selling or trading it.
Owners Will Receive Two Recall Notices
The repair campaign won’t happen all at once.
Jaguar Land Rover expects to begin mailing interim owner notification letters on November 20, 2026, informing affected owners about the safety issue. Additional letters will be sent once the final remedy is available.
That means an owner could receive an initial notice before the dealership is ready to complete the final repair.

Don’t Ignore a Recall Because the SUV Seems Fine
A structural problem may not be something an owner can reliably identify during an ordinary walk around the vehicle.
NHTSA says manufacturers must remedy covered safety defects, and the agency recommends that owners follow manufacturer instructions and have open recalls repaired promptly. In 2024 alone, NHTSA recorded 1,073 vehicle and equipment safety recalls affecting more than 29.3 million vehicles, illustrating why checking for recalls should be a routine part of vehicle ownership.
For Range Rover Sport owners, the financial decision here is unusually straightforward: checking your VIN costs nothing, and the recall inspection and necessary repair are free. Delaying because the vehicle currently drives normally provides little financial upside when a manufacturer-funded inspection can determine whether the rear subframe needs attention.
If you own a 2024–2026 Range Rover Sport, check your VIN rather than relying solely on the model year. Two nearly identical SUVs can have different recall status depending on when and how they were built.
