Luna Composition Lab Announces 2026–27 Anniversary Season – Avant Music News


Luna Composition Lab has announced its 2026–27 season, continuing its tenth-anniversary commissioning initiative. Spanning two seasons, Luna Lab@10 includes more than 90 commissions for over 50 alumni. Founded by Missy Mazzoli and Ellen Reid in 2016, the organization provides mentorship and performance opportunities for female, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming composers ages 13–18.

Upcoming performances include ~Nois premiering Peyton Nelesen’s work in Chicago on October 4 and a February 26 program at Cal Performances in Berkeley featuring premieres by Hannah Chen, Marvel Jem Roth, and Danity Pike, performed by the Dutt Campbell Duo, Friction Quartet, and The Living Earth Show.

The June 2027 Luna Lab Festival in New York includes Ensemble Connect premiering works by the incoming fellows at Carnegie Hall on June 10, followed by five commissions performed by International Contemporary Ensemble at National Sawdust on June 12. Other participating ensembles include Kronos Quartet, Eighth Blackbird, Imani Winds, Sandbox Percussion, and Sō Percussion.
