The airline is connecting passengers from the Philippines to Istanbul through its Kuala Lumpur hub, giving travelers another option when planning trips to Türkiye and other European destinations.

AirAsia’s codeshare partnership with Pegasus Airlines, Türkiye’s largest low-cost carrier, supports the expanded connectivity. Through the partnership, passengers connecting in Kuala Lumpur can continue their journey to Istanbul and access Pegasus Airlines’ wider network.

Fly From the Philippines to Istanbul via Kuala Lumpur

Filipino travelers can fly from Manila or Cebu to Kuala Lumpur, then continue to Istanbul.

AirAsia currently operates 12 flights weekly from Manila to Kuala Lumpur and three flights weekly from Cebu to Kuala Lumpur.

The Kuala Lumpur hub also provides a connection point for Filipino travelers planning longer international journeys outside Southeast Asia.

For travelers with Europe on their bucket list, the connection adds another option to reach Türkiye and continue to other cities across the region.

Istanbul Opens Access to More European Destinations

Istanbul serves as a major gateway between Asia and Europe. From Istanbul, travelers can continue to destinations including London, Moscow, Ankara, Zurich, and Athens, among others.

This gives Filipino travelers more flexibility when planning multi-city European itineraries.

Depending on available flight schedules, visa requirements, budget, and preferred itinerary, a trip could combine Türkiye with other European destinations.

For first-time visitors to Europe, Istanbul can also serve as a starting point for exploring Türkiye before continuing to other destinations.

More Flights Between Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul

AirAsia is also increasing its Kuala Lumpur-Istanbul service.

The Kuala Lumpur to Istanbul route will increase from four flights weekly to seven flights weekly by February 2027.

The added frequency gives travelers more scheduling options when planning itineraries around holidays, annual leave, or longer European trips.

For Filipino travelers, having more connecting flight options can also make it easier to coordinate the Kuala Lumpur and Istanbul sectors.

A New Option for Filipino Travelers Planning Europe Trips

Europe remains a popular bucket-list destination for many Filipino travelers, but long-haul airfare, multiple flight connections, and visa requirements can complicate trip planning.

AirAsia Philippines says its expanded network aims to make international travel more accessible by providing additional connections through Kuala Lumpur.

AirAsia Philippines President and CEO Anna Lu Victoria said the airline recognizes that traveling to Europe remains a major goal for many Filipinos and that cost and visa requirements can make the journey feel challenging.

The airline is positioning its Fly-Thru service and partnership with Pegasus Airlines as part of its effort to provide more travel options beyond Southeast Asia.

What Filipino Travelers Should Know

Travelers considering the Kuala Lumpur-Istanbul connection should plan the trip carefully before booking.

Check Visa Requirements

A flight connection does not automatically determine entry requirements. Filipino passport holders should check the latest visa and entry requirements for Türkiye and every European country included in their itinerary before booking.

Consider Your Connecting Time

When planning a multi-sector journey, check the connection time between flights and understand whether your itinerary requires additional airport procedures.

Compare the Full Trip Cost

Look beyond the initial airfare. When calculating your total trip budget, add baggage fees, meals, airport transfers, accommodation, travel insurance, and transportation between European destinations.

Plan Your European Itinerary

Istanbul can work as an entry point for a wider European itinerary. Travelers can combine Türkiye with destinations such as Greece, Switzerland, or the United Kingdom, depending on flight availability and immigration requirements.

Watch Flight Schedules

Airline schedules can change, particularly as new services are introduced. Check the latest schedule and connection details before finalizing your trip.

AirAsia Expands Its International Network

The new connectivity gives Filipino travelers another option for reaching Europe through AirAsia’s Kuala Lumpur network.

With regular flights from Manila and Cebu to Kuala Lumpur and an increased Kuala Lumpur-Istanbul schedule planned for February 2027, the network provides more possibilities for travelers planning long-haul holidays.

For Filipinos dreaming of visiting Europe, the route creates another pathway to start planning that trip, whether the itinerary focuses on Türkiye or combines Istanbul with several European cities.
