Wizards of the Coast has released a new Dungeons & Dragons content drop on its digital platform. The new D&D Beyond October drop introduces new spooky-themed monsters, a new use of the Tarokka deck, and a brand-new Fighter subclass.
The New D&D Beyond October Drop
The new D&D Beyond October drop is packed with horror-themed content based on the creepy plane of the Shadowfell. For DMs, the drop includes new monsters, such as the horrendous Gore Drinker, the unsettling Mirror Haunt, which can strike from mirrors on the material plane, and the Sarcospikes, shadow-touched flesh-eating fish.
If you use D&D Beyond’s map and encounter feature, the new October drop has you covered, too. These maps include Shadowfell ruins, forest clearings at night, a burial chamber with magic circles, and cavern corridors around a ritual pit. In addition, there are five Storied Encounters: Urban Vampire Cadre, Corrupted Grove, Demonic Cult Following, Ooze There, and Slippery Slope.
The biggest draw for the D&D Beyond October drop is new feats and a brand new character subclass. The Sorrow Knight Fighter is a warrior who is marked by great despair, causing them to tap into the power of the Shadowfell. The central gimmick of the subclass is its Despairing Strike dice, which can be spent for extra damage and to inflict debilitating effects on enemies.
The introduction of the Sorrow Knight, much like last month’s Duskling species, marks a first for D&D Beyond content drops. It marks the first time a character subclass has been introduced through this drip-feed approach.
Lastly, the D&D Beyond October drop includes a new life path builder for characters using the Tarokka deck. Using either the new deck featured in Ravenloft: The Horrors Within or the original deck from the Curse of Strahd module, you can draw a spread of five cards and generate a full backstory for your next character.
