  1. perfect for learning my next song on my 4 string Cigar Box Guitar.

  2. A teacher's teacher, very nice approach & extremely musical ideas, you are in Britain I assume?

  3. A great teacher. One with not only a mathematical but also a philosophical mind. And a love for physics and humor to boot.

  4. It’s funny… In my head, I call the minor 7 flat 5 chord “The Penrose Chord” only, I just think “Penrose” — like when soneone says “The Hendricks Chord” we all know what it means.

  5. You're Memphis Slide almost sounds like the piano/horns response to the bass melody in So What from Miles with a little different rhythm and tempo. You're side step/half step pickups sounds like great fun I've had as a bari player. Love tritone subs.

  6. It's been a few weeks I've seen this lesson.
I am just revisting it, as repetion to integrate and burning your information into the brain.
Man, what a great way to teach…….
this is by far the best, gold nugget lesson, I came across.
It goes beyond teaching a tune, you also teach the procedure how to learn a tune.

I took all my notes I did on my 1st visit of this tutorial.
Along with all the diagrams for each chord you've mentioned,
together what you say in the lesson. Everything is cristal clear now……….
and that brings confidence while playing.

  7. Damn, like chinese to me but super interesting… hope I can get all of this eventually… An man that Novo guitar souds soooo good…

  8. Such great instruction. Love it ❤

  9. I thought that was an awesome tutorial, you did a really nice job

  10. Love Alex. I bought a lot of his transcriptions.

  11. Great one Alex. Can you point me to the lesson with those Hendrixian double stops?

  12. Damn! You got me again with the ol' bait an' switch. I heard that intro and thought "yeah, I can learn that." then BAM! I'm in the deep end and out of my depth – again! Nevertheless, I'm going to persevere. I think my playing will really benefit. PS. the Novo sounds great.

  13. Love this vidéo as all videos on this Channel … Big thanks Alex ! Excellent for switching blues chords to jazz chords ! Harmony get better and more idéa ! Exactly what i need ! This vidéo must be to show at every guitare school 👍

  14. I spent a ton of time trawling Youtube for the best Guitar and music education content, in terms of teaching classic jazz and blues songs (and beyond), at the highest of levels, in a clear and refined way, you are the gold standard Alex. I've got 8 tabs open on my browser for the last few weeks, of stuff I need to learn and am working on, and 4 of those tabs, are your videos. Thank you for the incredible content, I'll be joining the Patreon once finances permit it. Pints are on me if you ever find yourself in Cork Ireland. Cheers bro. Also the Michael Talbot holographic universe reference was appreciated, I've got that book in the attic somewhere.

  15. Wow, Alex. That was both exhaustive and, well, exhausting (in a good way). Lots of great chord ideas. The song came to mind earlier in the week when I found myself quoting a line from Stormy Monday to my wife when she said she was struggling with Monday. A BIG thank you.

  16. Great stuff. Very high value, a couple of real nuggets in there!

  17. Alex Farran is a diamond in a field of cubic zirconia. As always, Alex, we appreciate you!!

  18. That Novo sounds cleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaan…

  19. Very interesting video and very well explained 😀

  20. This is the most useful thing I have seen on U-tube, probably, ever. This may actually help me get out of my intermediate funk. Thank you Alex!

  21. That lick you're talking about 'Memphis slide' goes back (and probably further) to the guitar work of Steve Cropper with booker t and the MGs. — sameuy on guitar in 'The blues Brothers." good lesson cheers

  22. Great Job Here lots of great stuff too work on Thanks back to study .

  23. This a great, comprehensive, lesson on this song. I will adopt parts and ideas I like. I’m learning comping currently, and these ideas help.

  24. I postponed this one, big mistake, I came back and had a lot of fun. Still hard work, but that’s not really work right ? Thanks Alex 🙏

  25. Fellow teacher. I just found your channel. Great stuff, and your delivery and style is spot on.

For anyone else, this is an absolute masterclass on Stormy Monday chords.

Yes, there's a fire hose of info, something for every level. That's how masterclasses go. Basic all the way to pro-level.

Collect what you can from the stream of information and use it. Don't worry about what you can't grasp yet.

  26. I have purchased this lesson via Gumroad and downloaded the files. Sorry to leave a message here but couldn't find an easier way to make contact. So the folder I have contains .GP and GPX files. Do I need the guitar pro app to open these files? Do I need to open these files? Thanks.

  27. ALEX …………GRAZIE per cio' che ci doni

  28. Alex, such a nice video. So in depth and yet relaxing to watch and play/listen to. You're doing so well in making the complex seem easy. Thanks for the lesson and musical insight. I became a fan from your "Sleepwalk" video.

  29. I have watched your video here,
over and over again. The last couple of days.
Because I have used it as a tutorial.
I am working on this tune.
And it has been a great help. I also watched
and listen to all your explanations, took
notes and made schematics and diagrams
    about the different movements.
    I have learned so much……
Now I am working on becoming fluid
on all the movements and chord changes.
Great version of yours, I‘ll promise I will
mention your name, each time I’ll play this
    tune.

  30. Hi Alex, thank you this incredible class! Could you please tell me who sang that song with the minor chords? Thanks again!

  31. Great stuff Alex, brilliant delivery, simple and straightforward!

  32. Very nice lesson! Appreciate the explanations for the alternative extensions/options.

  33. most beautiful novo I've ever seen and sweet playing

  34. I got a request from a friend I jam with for this tune. I like to practice my comping while he solos. This video gave a really nice brush up on ideas for creative comping.

  35. This is a fantastic video and deep dive into one of my favorite renditions of a blues song! You explained so many ideas that I had used mostly from trial and error and experimentation without knowing even what the chords were called or how the motion worked. This is one of the best guitar tutorial videos I have ever seen and you truly have a gift of not just being a great player, but an excellent teacher. Keep it up and many many thanks!

  36. Thank you for this brilliant lesson.🙏🏼

  37. What a great lesson. I loved this. Lots of informative information. Great Job !

  38. Very good lesson. Nicely done. Picked up a few tips. Thanks. 👍🏽 Cheers !

  39. I’ve been working really hard on your B-flat blues, the Bill Jennings, vintage blues study, but I’ve had this on my desk to start working on it again and I just spent about six hours this weekend going through all these rhythm changes, having so much fun. Thanks very much for all your lessons. I have subscribed and joined as a Patreon over a year ago and I really appreciate your in depth lessons.

  40. Great lesson, as always, but that stunning guitar is distraction! haha, I needed this lesson on this song, much appreciated!

  41. Wow great teacher ! And explained so calmly and relaxed! Pure perfection! Thx 🙏

  42. Wonderful work as always! I got to know this classic thanks to the ABB Live at Filmore East, very tasty

  43. I think I know why it’s called the Memphis slide even if you called it that. The Chuck Berry song called Memphis does that. Maybe that’s where it came from. Or maybe he called it Memphis because they threw that slide in there. The clarity of your license is fantastic. They move along at just the right speed.

  44. Clear, concise — as good as it gets! Thank you, Alex.

  45. Thanks for a fantastic lesson very well presented and with historical context. Also the clothes, hat, guitar and environment are top notch!
