  4. Love the guitar and of course I love your playing having stumbled across this video. What I’ve found playing this way is that people love it on open mic night s since so many folks all play the same way

  5. Superb .. takes me back. How about teaching some ragtime?

  6. WHY IS NEWMAX A FULLY NAZI OPERATION? THEIR SICKNESS FOR LIES IS AS BAD AD FOXFAKE. TRAITORS ALL.

  7. Thanks, Alex, Travis pickin' made clear!!

  8. Thank you so much for what you do friend! I'm not sure that the word gratitude has evolved enough in the English language to describe how I feel exactly! I've been playing for decades myself but have always wanted to learn finger style,,, Appalachian type bluesy stuff but have not embarked on the journey until your videos so,,,,, thank you for leveling me up! I appreciate you 🙏

  9. Great lesson and beautiful guitar. J45?

  10. This tutorial helped me a lot. Thank you!

  11. I came across your channel in my feed. Now I’m a huge fan. Well done! I look forward to seeing more videos like this.

  12. Beautifully done! I’m going to do a deep dive into this, in the meantime I’ll just listen to you play it. Thanks

  13. Great lesson. You showed up out of nowhere on my feed. I’m a finger style hacker but your lesson gives me hope. Will definitely subscribe and study. Thanks again!

  14. Amazing lesson! However, can somebody PLEASE show me how to get my thumb over the top as I've not been able to manage it in almost 40 years of playing! If Alex said he has seen small children do it then surely I'm doing something wrong?? 😢

  15. I think watching this entire lesson, for the first time I believe I'll be able to get this technique in my hands! 🙃

  16. At this moment this seems impossible. I am going to try.

  17. Great, as always, Alex! And what a lovely little "folk blues"!

This is the second time I hear you talking about doing some Beatles stuff. I'm jumping with excitement at the prospect of that.

I'm sure you already know about Mike Pachelli and his work. There must be some space for complementary material, and some friendly competition, right? 😊

The treasure that is the collected works of The Beatles deserves to be covered by the best, so please have a go!

Side note @Everyone : Pachelli has a quite nice walkthrough of Beatles' Dear Prudence, that song being the outcome of Donovan teaching the boys Travis picking while they where all in India. Recommended.

  18. If you keep at it, you can eventually be as cool as Bruce Molsky.

  19. Nice lesson! U covered a lot! The discussion about styles is fascinating, as is learning them. I feel, often, it's almost accidental, in that one hears something one wants to play, which kicks off the learning process. For me it was ragtime, late '60s. I finally tracked down the LP (Contemporary Guitar Sampler), the track (McGhee's Rag, by John Pearse), and finally the tab! Took about 2 years to play with any fluidity, but along the way, had to learn alternating thumb bass, and fingers picking out melody. I can't claim ur versatility, but it started a lifetime of learning, and taking joy in arranging any song that took my fancy. The guitar is an extraordinary instrument, that can emulate other instruments, such as piano, or harp, and can be involved in music as stylistically divergent as Carolan n the Celtic tradition, through folk revival, and rock music, to the modern era. The last thing I played along to was Chaise Longue by Wet Leg! 😂
I hope u inspire another generation.. cheers 😊

  20. I purchased the lesson. It's a lot of fun to play.

  21. Excellent tutorial….I'm a big fan of Emmanuel….this is an excellent step towards his style

  22. Alex – quite simply the best online tutorial I've come across so far. I've recently picked up my guitar again for the first time in years and won't be putting it down again any time soon thanks to you! My wife is delighted 😂😂
