I’ve spent the last few years eating the best burgers in Broward county. Like my Best Burgers in Miami list, I will update it throughout the year.
This Best Burger list was not created by a group of people but by me. Its sole purpose is to turn burger fans on to a new favorite.
Over the years, we’ve lost some good ones. So, go out and support these mom-and-pop burger joints.
Burger Beast Best Burgers Methodology
It’s important to note that all burgers on this list are fresh beef; frozen patties are not allowed. I then put together a list based on what I’ve eaten and started to eliminate burgers.
The list shrinks down to 30. Then, the most challenging part comes: deciding which to cut. From there, it’s a matter of figuring out which burger I prefer to eat when comparing the two.
To be 100% clear, I have eaten every burger on this list and taken every picture. If you’re looking for burger list shenanigans, go elsewhere.
Where to Find the TOP Broward Burger Joints
The burgers are listed alphabetically; if not, we both know you’d only try the Top Three.
Bare Bones BBQ

The Bare Bones BBQ & Jerk Burger is a must. We’re talkin’ chargrilled magic with American cheese, grilled onions, and… yeah, lettuce and tomato tried to sneak in, but we politely showed them the door.
Then I took it next level — added bacon. But not just any bacon… the BBQ gods came through with smoked pork belly. Now the ball’s in your court.
You need this burger in your life — you just didn’t know it… till now.

BMC Smash Burgers

I met Jay Rok when he was doing hot dog pop-ups as Frankenfurters. About a year later, he added smash burgers to his pop-up repertoire. He has now found his true calling.
Not to take away anything from the tasty cylindrical meats he was grilling, but the BMC Smash Burgers have that perfect crust with melted and crispy grilled onions. Plus, they look beautiful.

Charm City Burger Company

I’ve been in love since that fateful summer afternoon in 2009 when I first ate at Charm City Burger Company.
The Good Ole with American cheese, LTO, pickles, and special sauce is a great first-time burger. I’m a giant fan of The Cowboy cause that thick-cut pepper bacon, grilled onions, and grilled mushrooms hit my palate like a ton of bricks.

Emmy Squared

It had been years since I last sank my teeth into an Emily burger—my first one was at the South Beach Wine & Food Festival. So when I walked into Emmy Squared, all I had on my mind was Le Big Matt.
This beauty is a double-stacked half-pound of Braveheart grass-fed Black Angus beef (chuck, brisket, short rib) topped with melty American cheese, their signature Sammy sauce, greens, and pickles, hangin’ in a toasted pretzel bun.
How good was it? I ate it with the lettuce still on. Yeah, I can’t believe it myself.

Gilbert’s 17th Street Grill

No matter how tempted you are, please repeat after me: eat the Havarti Burger at Gilbert’s 17th Street Grill. There are other burgers on the menu, but this is where you should start for first-timers.
All the burgers are half-pound and cooked to your liking, so if you’re one of the medium rare types of people, they’ve got it handled. Also, ask about burger of the month; it’s always a winner.

Jack’s Old Fashion Hamburger House

Jack’s Old Fashion Hamburger House burgers are ground in-house daily; we’re talking super fresh. There are three sizes to choose from: Jack Jr (1/4 pound), Original (1/3 pound), and Big Jack (1/2 pound) burgers.
My go-to is the original cheeseburger with mustard relish, a condiment that has disappeared from burger joint menus. Your first bite will transport you back to when quality was king.

Kenny’s Smash Burgers

Here’s the weird part: Kenny’s Smash Burger calls this the Birria Smash Burger—except there’s no actual birria on it. You do get a consomé (regular or spicy) for dipping, but I skipped that part.
What you do get is a double semi-smashed burger with American cheese, bacon jam, and a “sweet, tangy secret sauce” that screams honey mustard. I’ve never been a honey mustard-on-burgers guy—until now. At first, I was like, how dare he. Then it grew on me. And now, look at that, it’s on my Best Burgers list. Go figure.

North South Grill

North South Grill 1/4 pound burgers come standard with North sauce, American cheese, pickles, and lettuce-tomato-onion. The lettuce and tomato are a no-go for me, and I switch the onions to grilled, aka next level.
These fellas were so good that I made the 30-minute drive the following day cause I couldn’t believe it. I highly suggest that you squeeze in fresh-cut fries or hand-breaded chicken tenders.

Tarpon River Brewing

Tarpon River Brewing’s burger lineup includes the Tarpon River Burger, Backyard BBQ Burger, and Double Smash Burger. Choosing just one felt criminal, so I skipped the BBQ and doubled up on the Tarpon River and the Double Smash.
The Double Smash was solid—but no match for the Tarpon River Burger. This half-pound, chargrilled charmer comes stacked with white American cheese, lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, and Tarpon River’s house aioli, all on a toasted brioche bun.
I yanked off the lettuce and tomato with lightning speed and was immediately transported to beefy bliss. Honestly? Strip it down to patty, cheese, and bun, and it still hits like a world champ.

Temple Street Eatery

It pains me to say this because this Katsu Bao Burger goes against many of my burger beliefs. So much so that this burger can not pass Go and can not collect $200…but went straight to my Best Burgers in Broward list.
Katsu Bao Burger = Japanese panko-crusted burger patty, Asian slaw, pineapple slice, tonkatsu sauce, and Kewpie mayo on a Bao burger bun.

TooJay’s Deli

Whenever I hit up a deli or diner, the first thing I scan the menu for is a patty melt. I came to TooJay’s Deli for pastrami, but the patty melt pulled a fast one on me—and I’m glad it did.
This one’s got a juicy grilled burger, caramelized onions, chipotle mayo, and melted Swiss, all stacked between two thick slices of griddled rye. How good was it? Let’s just say it earned its way onto this Best Burgers list. You do the math.
