US Strikes Iranian Military Site Amid Rising Tensions, Downs Multiple Drones

The US military carried out new strikes in Iran overnight, targeting a military site. Officials believed this site threatened US forces and commercial maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz, a US official told. The official, who requested to remain anonymous, noted that the US military has also intercepted and shot down several Iranian drones that posed a similar threat.

These strikes, which have not been reported before, occurred during talks to end a war that has lasted three months. This conflict killed thousands and caused a significant rise in global energy prices since it started on February 28 with US and Israeli attacks.

Earlier on Wednesday, US President Donald Trump dismissed an Iranian state media report. The report claimed that Iran and Oman manage shipping through the Strait of Hormuz as part of a peace agreement. Trump said that the waterway would remain open.

The US last conducted what it termed defensive strikes against Iran on Monday. Iran described these actions as a breach of the fragile ceasefire between the countries. The US targets included boats trying to lay mines and missile launch sites, which the US military’s Central Command said threatened US forces.
